Basic Cooking Methods

Cooking is an art. Preparing foods for consumption by using techniques, methods and creativity. Here are some basic cooking methods to your knowledge.

Boiling

Cooking ingredients cook in deep boiling liquid, such as water, wine, stock, etc. in n open or covered saucepan. Keep food in heated liquid until boiling point with more bubbles.

Simmering

Simmering also look like boiling, but liquid is kept just below the boiling point in an uncovered pot.undefined

Steaming

Food is placed on a container (Steel, wooden, cane steamer, etc) and cook from steam of boiling water. This is a covered process.

Stewing

Cooking food in its own juice some additional liquid in a covered pan at simmering point.undefined

Poaching

Cook by simmering in a small amount of liquid. The cooking liquid is normally water, but can also use broth, stock, milk, wine or juice. Common foods cooked by poaching include fish, eggs and fruit.undefined

Baking

Baking is a method of preparing foods by using dry heat. Normally in an oven, but can also be done in hot ashes or on hot stone. Most common baking item is bread, but there are so many baking items such as cakes, cookies, desserts, meats, etc. heat surface gradually transfer the heat from the surface to food. undefined

Frying

This means cooking of food in fat or oil. There are several types of frying techniques. Those are sautéing, stir frying, pan frying, shallow frying and deep frying. For sautéing, stir frying and pan frying uses thin layer of oil on a hot surface. It might be frying pan, griddle, sauteuse or wok. Shallow frying is also a type of pan frying but only using enough oil to immerse, approximately one- third to one-half of each piece of food. Deep frying is totally immersing food in hot oil. But main frying methods are Deep frying, Shallow Frying and Stir Frying. undefined

Roasting

For this method also uses dry high heat. Cooking food evenly on all sides with high temperature from an oven, open flame or other heat source. In this process makes the outside of the food go brown and dry. Most probably this method uses for meat and vegetables. undefined

Grilling

This is also a form of cooking that using dry heat applied to the surface of food. For this method usually involves a significant amount of direct, radiant heat. You can use various sources of heat for grilling, such as wood burning, coals, gas flame or electric heating.   This is used for cooking meat and vegetables quickly. Before grilling food can be marinade.

Broiling

cooking by exposing food to direct radiant heat, either on a grill over live coals or below a gas burner or electric coil. Broiling differs from roasting and baking in that the food is turned during the process so as to cook one side at a time.
